Star Wars

Star Wars first came to the movie theater when I was in second grade. I vividly remember my parents putting my brother and I in pajamas and driving in the Thunderbird to the Drive-In. We played on the old rusty playground down in the front until it was finally dark enough to see the movie. When the movie started, we were mesmerized. Imagine - Star Wars on the huge drive-in movie screen!

We finally decided to let our 5 year old son watch Star Wars right before Christmas. He quickly became obsessed as most 5 year old boys do. He would re-enact scenes from the movie and ask detailed questions about the other 5 movies. One morning I woke up to find him sitting at the edge of my bed. He launches right in, "Mommy - I just have a few more questions about exactly how Annakin becomes Darth Vader." I informed him that I needed a cup of tea before I could take any Star Wars related questions.

My mother got him a bunch of Star Wars figures and a light saber for Christmas. It was a huge hit. He has started using the light saber to get things down from high places. The 2 year old also loves the light saber. She chases her brother with the light saber while yelling, "Chewbacca says Roar!!!" It's the only thing she knows about Star Wars.

So, we decided to let him watch Empire Strikes Back thinking that it might help answer some of the questions. It didn't. Same amount of questions and now he lines up all 6 movies on his window sill with representative characters in front of each movie.

It doesn't look like the infatuation with Star Wars will be wearing off anytime soon. I guess I shouldn't be surprised, though. Once, a long, long time ago, I was Princess Leia for Halloween - I had a light saber, hair in buns on each side of my head, and long white gown. I also probably drove my family crazy with Star Wars re-enactments and questions.
