Miniature Golf

We are just back from several days of actually lunching in Deep Creek. We had a fabulous time - great meals, fishing, horseback riding, and bike riding to name just a few things. The best memory from our vacation to the mountains of Maryland has to be miniature golfing with the two year old.

We all decided to go miniature golfing - my husband, 2 kids, mom, and mom's cousin. Thankfully, we were all there to witness the 2 year old golfing. There really is no way to describe it, but I will try my best. On the second hole, she grabs her club and tells all of us to "Move Back!" When we didn't move back far enough, she then pointed at each of us individually and told us to "Move Back!" Then, she proceeded to swing the club up, around, and behind her head. She spread her legs very far apart - sort of like a samurai warrior. Started swinging the club down and around in an extremely convoluted manner, tapped the ball, and it moved maybe a centimeter. After watching this several times, we instituted what we like to call the "Alexandra Rule" in honor of my cousin. We informed the 2 year old to pick up her ball, place it next to the hole, and hit it in.

She got a 2 on every hole.

Lunching in Deep Creek

We leave tomorrow for a long weekend at Deep Creek Lake, Maryland and to say that the children are excited for their vacation would be an understatement. My oldest had me create a paper chain 40 links long 40 days ago so that he could rip a chain a day and help with the countdown to vacation.

This morning they are both in the backyard playing. I half-notice them loading a bunch of stuff into their motorized jeep and head off across the yard. Next thing I see, they have a table and umbrella set up with chairs at the far side of the yard, and they are sitting and laughing. Naturally, I ask what they are doing. The reply - we are having lunch at Deep Creek today! And, can you bring our lunches out here for us to eat? How could I refuse. So, I throw together some PB & J and run the gauntlet around the dog to serve them their lunch in Deep Creek. They just couldn't wait one more day for vacation to start.

Washing Machine Blues

Anyone who has been following my posts closely know that Fridays are not usually my best day. Last Friday was going very well, though. A friend watched the kids so I could finally get my hair cut (it had been 5 months), and I even got to throw a load of laundry into the washing machine before I left the house for the hair cut.

When I returned, I noticed that the clothes were very wet and decided to put them through the spin cycle one more time. I turned the machine on and it started to make an awful noise and sounded like it was going to explode. I turned off the machine and came into the family room to figure out what to do next. At that moment, my son informed me that the two year was doing something very, very bad. Once again, she had gotten into my black stamping pad and had black ink covering her entire body and clothes. A typical Friday yet again.

So, I clean up the two year old and make my Friday ranting phone call to my husband where I state that we will be getting a new washing machine on Saturday as I had no intention of travelling every other day to a relative's house to do laundry. Once again, he was wise enough to just agree with my ranting and got off the phone with me as quickly as possible.

We were fortunate enough to find a dented and scratched washing machine at Home Depot bright and early Saturday morning for a great price. We loaded it into the van, had a neighbor help us move it in, and I was back in business by dinner time. I am no longer singing the washing machine blues.
